YolandaEven before Jesus & Elizabeth Fernando Foundation, Inc. (JEF Foundation) was officially established, the people behind it has been doing some charitable works as Corporate Social Responsibility of FERSAL Hotel Group (FHG). Some of the activities were visiting charitable institutions for old folks and orphanages. The team led by Ms. Elizabeth Fernando, President & CEO of FERSAL Hotel Group, would either distribute bags of groceries or celebrate birthdays or Christmas parties with them with free packed meals or gifts. It was when catastrophic calamities were hitting the Philippines like Ondoy, Habagat and Yolanda that Mrs. Fernando started to visualize and institutionalize the establishment of a foundation instead of just merely a Corporate Social Responsibility of FHG. The foundation is now called Jesus & Elizabeth Fernando Foundation, Inc. (JEF Foundation).
JEF Foundation, in its own little way, was one among those who extended assistance to the victims and devastated of super typhoon Yolanda. Led by Mrs. Fernando, raised the awareness and made pleas to her friends, relatives and employees to join hands together in prayers and giving whatever's in each heart's content, either in the form of financial assistance, foods, in kinds and or volunteered services for the victims of Yolanda.
Through the foundation, 120,000 food packs were donated for Yolanda victims in Isabel, Leyte. Each pack consisting of 2 kilos of rice, noodles and 6 cans of sardines. Volunteers were mostly employees from Fernando family's group of companies (the FERSAL Hotel Group & JB Music), family, friends and relatives who made the relief goods operation possible from repacking to distribution.
